The Second Annual Mount Forest Shredding Event was a resounding success, with the event netting $986, an increase over the first year.
Wellington North Fire Service – Mount Forest Station parking lot was the location again for 2016. The Shredding Event had a line up of customers ahead of the 10 a.m. kick off.
The event served two purposes; to draw awareness to the dangers of identity theft, and to raise funds for Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW). By offering $5 per box, the public could reduce their chance of becoming a victim of identity theft by preventing their documents from ending up in the wrong hands.
Customers traveled from all over Wellington County and surrounding areas. The shredding was offered free of charge to CSGW by FileBank, which allowed CSGW to maximize their profits. All funds raised go toward to the program, including paying rewards to Tipsters who provide valuable information that can solve crimes in our area.
“We are more than happy with the support we received in Mount Forest,” said Sarah Bowers-Peter, Program Coordinator for CSGW. “It was great to find out we had repeat customers, and that people wanted to know if we were going to do this again next year.” From all accounts, it would seem that CSGW will indeed offer the Shredding Events in Guelph and Mount Forest again next year.
