September 2021
At Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW), we’re not just focused on resolving crime after it’s happened; we like to prevent it as well!
That’s why we offer not one, but two shredding events within our area to prevent Identity Theft; Sept 11 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at 201 Woodlawn Road W (Skyjack parking lot) Guelph and Oct 2 at 381 Main St. N (Wellington North Fire Service parking lot) in Mount Forest. For $5 per bankers box, you can have the piece of mind knowing that your personal and confidential information has been professionally destroyed.
You might not think that you have anything to worry about; our names, addresses and even phone numbers can easily be looked up online, or on social media. What we are concerned about is bank information, Social Insurance Numbers or other key government issued information.
What could possibly happen? You could lose your identity, which means someone else could use your personal information for their gain. Specifically, someone could lease an apartment, take out a loan, purchase a vehicle, apply for a passport and its YOUR name on the line when they don’t honor their financial commitments or commit crimes. Identity Theft is becoming so prevalent that it’s been referred to as “The Crime of the 21st Century”. It can impact your credit rating, your finances, your criminal record (or lack thereof) and your ability to travel. Because of the complexities of Identity Theft, it can take years to restore your good name and reputation.
This is why it is so important to ensure sensitive documents are destroyed properly. Shredding your documents gives you piece of mind. By participating in the Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington events, you are also supporting a program that helps reduce and resolve crime in YOUR community.
Whether it is personal shredding or for small businesses, your documents will be destroyed on site and you never have to get out of your car. Let our volunteers do the heavy lifting for you!
Thank you to Wasteco, Skyjack, Desjardin Insurance Agent Deryck West and The Cooperators – Robert J. Cottell & Associates for sponsoring the 2021 Shredding Events.
