Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) stayed on track with tips and remarkable outcomes, despite a global pandemic.
2020 saw 783 tips submitted to CSGW that resulted in eight cases being cleared by investigators. This is only 24 tips behind 2019 numbers. The eight cases resulted in an impressive 33 charges being laid.
As a result of these investigations, $71,270 in drugs, personal property and cash was recovered. This is only $4,000 less than 2019, which was a high-water mark for the program.
“Once again, brave individuals from our communities have done the right thing,” said Sarah Bowers-Peter, Program Coordinator for CSGW. “In spite of the remarkable circumstances throughout 2020, the public has come through to do their part to keep their communities safe.”
While not a police organization, CSGW works with Wellington County OPP, Guelph Police Service and other investigative agencies, to offer a safe, anonymous method for the public to report information that could lead to arrests in local criminal acts.
“Regardless of the conditions around us, Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington did not miss a day of taking tips in 2020. We are proud of that.” said Bowers-Peter.
The Board of Directors has approved $173,455 in rewards to Tipsters since it was founded in 1988. Rewards are designated for tips that lead to arrests.
