Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) and Wellington County OPP (WCOPP) have formalized their partnership with an official Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The document, signed by CSGW Chair Rick Beazley and WCOPP Inspector Scott Lawson, outlines the roles and responsibilities of each party and allows the program to forward tips to the police service. Before this MOU, there had been an informal agreement.
“We know the support for Crime Stoppers from the Ontario Provincial Police spans the province,” said Beazley, “but we are fortunate to have such outstanding interest and investment in our program locally from Wellington County OPP. Not only are we able to provide OPP investigators with value tips, but we also offer training for officers to ensure the viability of the program and the safety and anonymity of the Tipsters.”
In additional to tip protocol and training, the agreement also covers the maintenance of the CSGW truck and details the role of the Program Coordinator, an employee of WCOPP.
“I’m please to sign off on this agreement with Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington,” said Inspector Lawson. “Wellington County OPP sees the obvious value of this program, not only for our investigators, but for the community at large. Anything that allows us to work more effectively for the safety of our community is something we want to fully support. Crime Stoppers is another tool for us in our work, and we are proud of all this program has accomplished.”
CSGW is required to have MOUs in place with any police service or investigative agency that receives tips from the program. The document span January 29, 2019 until January 29, 2021.
