Elevated Reward for Harriston Homicide

Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) is offering an elevated reward of up to $5,000 for successful tips related to the 2019 homicide of Jason John Brown.

Brown, a resident of Kitchener, was last seen on Jessie Street in Harriston, (Town of Minto) on March 12, 2019, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Brown was reported missing, and his body was located the following day in Durham Region, north of Whitby, Ontario, near Stevenson Rd and Durham Regional Rd 5. A homicide investigation began at that time.

Traditionally CSGW offers cash rewards of up to $2,000, but given the nature of this case, the reward has been increased to $5,000.

“The (CSGW) Board of Directors is responsible for approving rewards for information that leads to an arrest,” said Sarah Bowers-Peter, CSGW Program Coordinator, “and they felt that any information that could resolve this long-standing homicide could qualify for the increased reward value. It may just be the motivation someone needs to do the right thing.”

Anyone who has information about individuals who may have been around the Harriston Cemetery around 6:30 p.m. on March 12, 2019, or about the three vehicles of interest, a Chevrolet Cruze, a Chrysler 300 and minivan, can provide the information anonymously and confidentially by calling CSGW at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) or going online to csgw.tips.

“This incident is the ideal opportunity for someone to use Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington,” said Bowers-Peter. “You will not have to testify in court or speak to police. It’s how you can keep your community safe.”

Tipsters are anonymous and their information is confidential. For this incident only, if your information leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000.
