More Than $2,000 Raised at Guelph Shredding Event

It’s a Fall tradition in the City of Guelph – the Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) Shredding Event at Stone Road Mall.

With the weather cooperating and both loyal repeat customers and brand new supporters out in droves, CSGW had one of the most successful Shredding fundraisers ever. The event raised $2,277 in Shredding contributions and $140 in CSGW T shirt sales.

From 9 a.m. to noon, CSGW – in concert with FileBank, offered safe, professional shredding service at the Sears parking lot. The cost was $5 per bankers box with all proceeds going to CSGW, as FileBank provided their services free of charge.

While the event is a fundraiser, it is also an awareness event, as CSGW advocates the public preventing identity theft by destroying documents instead of putting them in recycling or in landfills. Identity theft is known as the Crime of the 21st Century and can impact an individual’s ability to apply for a loan, a credit card, or a passport. It can take years to stop the crime and restore your good name and credit score.

Fundraising is crucial to CSGW as rewards paid to Tipsters come from fundraising dollars. Donations, sponsorships and fundraisers are how CSGW runs the program as it is a Not For Profit organization.

Those on hand for the 2017 Guelph Shredding Event include, from left, CSGW Board members John Svensson and Ross Morrow, Treasurer Bonnie Facklam, volunteer Dieter Facklam, CSGW Board member Marlene Coughlin and CSGW Office Coordinator Leesa Keleher.
